When I give people tours of The Community Kitchen, the most common comments are about how amazed they are to see how much food we move through our hot meals and pantry programs. The next thing people want to know is where does all this food come from?
There are actually a LOT of sources for the food that reaches our community through The Community Kitchen. Here is just one example of what it takes to do what we do. Every Tuesday, Nick and Penny take the big box truck to UNFI and the Vermont Food Bank. When they get back to the Kitchen, it’s all hands on deck! Volunteers and staff members from all different departments get to work rolling pallets, “de-palletizing,” moving boxes up the conveyor belt, and “re-palletizing” thousands of pounds of food.
Please enjoy a peek behind the scenes!
